The Mother Who Avenged Her 7-Year-Old Daughter-Marianne Bachmeier Story
This is the story of Marianne Bachmeier, a 30-year-old German mother who gunned down her daughter's killer, and it's not like she followed him into an alley and killed him in secret.
Marianne snuck a gun into the courtroom and shot him. She became an overnight sensation in 1980s Germany. She was like the Berlin Wall of vigilante justice.
Half the country thought it was justified; the other half thought she was a cold-blooded killer. So what compelled Marianne to take the law into her own hands? Was the justice system about to fail her, or did she want revenge? Those who knew seven-year-old Anna Bachmeier described her as a happy, independent kid. She was wise for her age, and her mother, Marianne, often treated her like a tiny adult.
Her father, Christian, owned a pub in Lübeck, Germany, where her mother served drinks. Working in a pub meant long hours and late nights, so Anna learned to care for herself pretty early. It's said that she spent most of her time at the pub.
As the story goes, on May 5th, 1980, Anna gets herself out of bed and dressed while Marianne sleeps. It's a typical morning for mother and daughter because Marianne usually works late and counts on Anna to get herself off to school alone. But that Monday, Anna is still fuming from an argument she and her mother had the day before.
So, she decides to teach her mom a lesson and skip school. Of course, she's not about to stay…
